Develop the strategy of partitioning two parts, using five plus bonds, to solve addition with wholes up to 20.

Represent five plus bonds with fingers
Instruct students who experience difficulty to make the amount using their fingers in a subitised way. One hand must be the part of 5.

Counting order
Start with “Ten Plus Bonds: Partitioning Addition Strategy Five Plus Bonds”. Point the arrow on the Spinner 1 to five. Keep it fixed there. Move the second spinner around clockwise, from the 12 o’clock position, to calculate each equation in counting order. Then play the game with spinner 1 fixed on five.
Repeat with Spinner 1 fixed on 15, calculating the equations in counting order. Then play the game with spinner 1 fixed on 15.
